Hog Outlook: Strong December Pork Demand, Prices End Higher

As usually happens, retail pork prices dropped in December. The average grocery store price of pork last month was $3.188 per pound, down 13.2 cents from November, but still 36.8 cents higher than 12 months earlier.

The Pork Report: Hog Slaughter Totals Dip, Lean Hogs Inch Higher

Lean hogs ended higher on Thursday, finishing the day up $0.28 to $80.28. Grains also improved. Soybean meal was the biggest gainer, jumping $2.00 to $385.30.

The Pork Report: Hog Slaughter Totals Tumble, Lean Hogs Improve

Hog slaughter totals plummeted on Tuesday, tumbling 48,000 to 360,000. Lean hogs had a better day, increasing by $0.95 to $80.48 after falling for the last three days. Pork bellies remain unchanged at $106.00 for the twelfth consecutive day.

Hog Outlook: Pork Exports Jump, Prices End Higher

U.S. pork exports during November were up 19.7% from the month before and up 6.7% compared to November 2009. The big growth markets were China, Mexico and Japan, each buying at least 10 million pounds more U.S. pork than 12 months earlier. Pork exports equaled 19.6% of November production. Pork imports were up 0.4% in November.

The Pork Report: Lean Hogs Jump, Slaughter Total Ends Slump

Lean hogs jumped on Wednesday, increasing $1.15 to $81.13. Hog slaughter ended its three-day slump after increased 25,000 to 416,000. All grains improved, with soybean meal being the biggest gainer with an $18.20 spike.

WASDE: Pork Production Estimates Fall, Hog Prices Up For 2011

The estimate of 2010 red meat and poultry production is raised from last month, reflecting higher production of beef, pork, broilers, and turkey. The forecast of production for 2011 is also raised for beef and broilers, but lowered for pork.

The Pork Report: Lean Hogs Climb, Wheat Tumbles

Hog slaughter total drops by 20,000 while lean hogs climb by $0.27 to $79.70, which is $0.08 below the high for the year. Wheat drops, and other grains improve. Soybean meal was the biggest gainer, increasing by $7.70 to $366.80. FULL STORY »
