The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in Amarillo now offers a enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test for the detection of antibodies to porcine circovirus (PCV) type 2. The PCV is a common virus found in pigs world-wide. The PCV type 2 emerged in North America in the late 1990s and has impacted countries with a developed swine industry around the world.
Clients should provide 1 cc of serum for the test. The test will be run Monday and Thursday; results are the same day if received in the virology section by noon. The test is offered for $8 for in-state and $9.60 for out-of-state clients. Discounted pricing for submissions with six or more specimens is $6 in-state and $7.20 out-of-state.
