The 12th International Symposium on Digestive Physiology in Pigs will take place in Keystone, Colo. on May 29 to June 1. The symposium has grown to become the premiere event for discussions on swine digestive physiology, organizers say.

This is the first time it's being held in the United States and more than 300 attendees from Europe, Asia and North and South America are expected to attend. The first symposium was held in 1979, and held triennially throughout the globe ever since.

The scientific program will focus on the digestive tract of the pig, emphasizing physiology, immunology and microbiology. More than 250 scientific abstracts will be presented. Additionally, topics will review the latest advances in the field of digestive physiology of pigs, and provide the basis for future research.

"We have an impressive roster of invited speakers, representing France, Scotland, Denmark, The Netherlands, Canada and the United States," according to symposium co-chairs, Merlin Lindemann, University of Kentucky, and John Patience, Iowa State University.

Lindemann points out that the conference is not just for scientists, but will appeal to others involved in the pork industry.

An Pre-Conference symposium will be held during the afternoon of May 29, with the theme of "Gut Chemosensing: Integrating Nutrition, Gut Function and Metabolism in Pigs". Lucta S.A. is sponsoring that event.

For registration and conference information, go to the symposium's website. Updates will be provided frequently. Specific queations can be directed to Jenna Stoia at jennas@assochq.org or +1 (217) 239-3361.
