Finding answers to evolving DDGS products

Pork producers have embraced the use of distillers dried grains with solubles, but as the ethanol production process evolves, so have the DDGS products. Today, ethanol producers are squeezing more of everything out of their byproducts and that is impacting the nutrient profile of the DDGS products entering swine farms.

To investigate options and provide answers, Nutriquest is sponsoring a meeting “How is Oil Extraction Impacting DDGS Value in Swine?” on Wednesday, March 21, from Noon to 4:30 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa. It will follow the 2012 American Dairy Science Association/American Society of Animal Scientists’ Midwest Annual Meeting, at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, 700 Grand Avenue.

The meeting will feature presentations by top professionals, Gerald Shurson, University of Minnesota animal science professor and DDGS specialist, and Brian Kerr, lead scientist with USDA’s Agricultural Research Service. Nutriquest’s Ken Purser will review the findings of a toxin DDGS survey. Concluding the meeting will be a round-table discussion featuring individuals from across the pork and ethanol industries.


Nutritionists, producers, university specialists, consultants and other interested parties from across the pork industry are invited to join the meeting for what promises to be a thought provoking session.
