Guidelines for diagnosis of PEDV

Do not take for granted that clinical signs in your pigs are or are not caused by PEDV. Knowing the infection status of herds or sites will help to prevent or contain the disease through biosecurity practices and control protocols. Accurate diagnosis through proper testing is essential to know a herd’s infection status.

To help with the diagnosis of the disease in a herd the Pork Checkoff, the National Pork Producers Council and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians have created a set of guidelines for diagnostic sample collection, which can be found at As always, contact your herd veterinarian if you suspect PEDV in your herd.
