The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) conducted its 2013 Market Expo last week in Lima, Peru, and Panama City, Panama. The USMEF Market Expo is a market education program in which producers representing state and national agricultural organizations learn specific details about foreign marketing of U.S. beef and pork.

This year 12 pork, beef, soybean and corn producers participated, including agricultural leaders from Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri and North Dakota. A list of participants and more details about the activities included in each market are available online:

In the attached audio release, two participants from the USMEF Market Expo offer their observations on the growth opportunities for U.S. beef and pork in Peru and Panama and the positive returns delivered to producers.

The first is United Soybean Board member David Hartke of Teutopolis, Ill., who raises soybeans, corn, wheat and sorghum while also operating a hog operation and finishing Holstein steers.

Also included are comments from Emmet, Neb., cattle producer and sale barn operator Richard Schrunk, who serves on the Nebraska Beef Council.
