Wisconsin state animal health officials report that the pseudorabies test results taken from swine farms located within a 5-mile radius of the second PRV-positive herd near Loyal, Wisc., in Clark County have all come back negative. The 33 herds within the quarantine area of the first PRV-positive herd, around Greenwood, Wisc., had previously tested negative to PRV.
Quarantines have now been removed from the 35 herds tested in connection with the Loyal site.
Both infected herds have been depopulated. State and federal officials will clean and disinfect the sites. Herds located within 2 miles of each of these two sites will be retested within 30 to 60 days. If the results are negative, the original farms may then repopulate.
Wisconsin should then be able to retain its Stage V PRV-Free status.
