Wal-Mart is set to unveil a major new environmental initiative that will eventually require all its suppliers to provide information about the environmental impact of their products. The effort will seek information from suppliers about subjects including location of factories, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and solid waste.
Wal-Mart then plans to summarize the information into a rating system which will be available to its customers.
The initiative will mean more innovative products that reduce carbon emissions, promote clean air and water, and create a more transparent and responsible supply chain.
