USDA is looking for comments related to its proposal on voluntary standards on marketing claims for "naturally raised" livestock and meat.
USDA will publish the proposed standards as a "Notice and Request for Comments" in the Federal Register. It will come under the title "U.S. Standards for Livestock and Meat Marketing Claims, Naturally Raised Claim for Livestock and the Meat and Meat Products Derived from such Livestock."
The goal is for the eventual final standard to set minimum requirements for producers who decide to operate a USDA-verified program involving a naturally raised claim. USDA officials reiterate that the naturally raised marketing claim will be a voluntary program.
