A single case of the pandemic H1N1 strain of influenza has been reported in a Quebec pig. The provincial agriculture, food and fisheries ministry (MAPAQ) reported that the animal has "completely recovered."
The strain was identified last week by the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease in Winnipeg, according to the Alberta Farmer Express and reported on flu.org.cn.
No other cases have been reported in Quebec and no transmission to people has occurred. It´s not known how the hog caught the virus. MAPAQ officials said no family members of the producer or any workers present on the farm were reported ill. The location of the farm was not released.
Earlier this week, Canadian authorities said they will no longer quarantine farms where the virus is found.
