It's been a rough road getting there, but Triumph Foods, St. Joseph, Mo., will be able to build its planned pork packing plant in East Moline, Ill. The city's aldermen voted unanimously to provide up to $20 million in tax and other financing assistance for Trumiph's plant.

Project opponents argue there are still many questions and concerns about the construction, and want the city to conduct additional studies. Waste processing, groundwater issues and wildlife preservation are among some of the hot points that remain. Some of the aldermen said the packing plant wasn't their choice of businesses, but  “...this is what we got.

Triumph announced plans last year to build a $114-million pork processing plant and expect to employ 1,000 workers and process as many as 15,000 hogs daily.
