Global Winnipeg reports three barns caught fire in southeast Manitoba Friday killing 7,500 hogs.

In addition to killing thousands of hogs, the fire caused $6 million in damage. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. The local fire chief says there are a large amount of electrical components and moving parts in the barn making it hard to determine how the fire started.

Smoke from the fire hampered visibility on nearby roads forcing police to block traffic. The fire was the second in that part of the province this week. Fires in three dairy barns on the previous Monday killed 450 dairy cows. Many of the volunteer firefighters were at both sites.
