A Checkoff-funded euthanasia research review workshop will be held February 1, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Des Moines at the Embassy Suites hotel. This meeting will highlight the results of a large 2009 Checkoff-funded initiative to improve existing methods and identify novel methods for humane euthanasia of swine.

Six researchers from the United States and abroad will provide an overview of their research results and participate in a discussion with the audience. Sherrie Niekamp, Checkoff’s director of animal welfare, says, “This session is designed to showcase how Checkoff research is working to find innovative solutions to this important industry issue. We hope to have good attendance and discussion.” Open to all producers and swine veterinarians, the free workshop does require the return of a meeting response form for in-person or webcast attendance.

This meeting precedes Checkoff’s annual unified research meeting.

To register for the event, fill out this form and return to the Pork Checkoff by mail, email or fax. Registration by phone is also available.
