The Animal Agriculture Alliance will host its fourth industry-wide Stakeholders Summit. The conference, “Animal Welfare Initiatives, Needs, Regulation and Communication: Building on the Past, Preparing for the Future,” is scheduled for March 21–23, at the Marriott Crystal City Hotel in Arlington,Va.

This year’s Summit is focused on animal welfare and its importance to all stakeholders in the food chain.  Speakers from production, retail, processing, research, USDA and the media will present new and innovative ideas being implemented today. 

Featured speakers include:

  • Dennis Treacy, vice president of public affairs for Smithfield Foods: A Common Sense Approach to Dealing With Activists.
  • Hafez Mohamed Hafez, director of poultry diseases at the Free University of Berlin: Lessons learned from legislating animal welfare within the European Union.
  • Bill Thomson, reporter, Oster Dow Jones: Gaining media trust and the factors that can impact a group’s ability to gain it. 
  • Aaron Putze, executive director and public relations officer, Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers: Building local alliances to combat locally targeted initiatives.

For registration by Feb. 29, the cost for attendance is $375 per person, or $350 per person for more than one attendee from the same organization. After Feb. 29, the cost is $425 and $400. Registration also includes two receptions, continental breakfast each day, lunch on Tuesday and a copy of the proceedings. 

You can make hotel reservations with the Marriott Crystal City for the special rate of $159 single/double.  Hotel reservations also must be made by Feb. 29, 2004, in the Animal Ag Alliance Summit block to receive this special rate.
