Dr. Jodi Sterle, associate professor and Extension swine specialist, trained the National Pork Board’s retail advisory committee in the Pork Quality Assurance Plus program.

Representatives from major retailers include Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Safeway Foods, Kroger and others.

The National Pork Board recently updated the quality assurance program, reinforcing the importance of proper use of antimicrobials in swine production, as well as increasing emphasis on animal care and well being. More than 45,000 adult producers are certified in the PQA Plus program nationally.
