Motorists around the Sioux Falls, D.S., metro area may notice some new billboards located on I-29 north of Sioux Falls and the I-29 and I-90 interchange. The billboards show the importance the pork industry has to the state’s soybean producers.

South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council director Lewis Bainbridge of Ethan, SD, says, “Soybean meal is particularly efficient in the production of U.S. pork. Every pound of pork exported overseas represents the utilization of 1.5 pounds of soybeans. In South Dakota, pork producers raise more than 2.3 million hogs annually consuming more than 6.5 million bushels of soybeans. Hogs add more than $500 million each year to the state’s economy.”

The project, Soybean and Pork Producers Impact South Dakota’s Economy, is a joint effort of the SDSRPC, South Dakota Pork Producers Council and the United Soybean Board.
