Officials at the Ranchland Packing Co. in Butte, Mont., are looking to build a hog slaughter plant to process about 1,000 pigs a day, reports Meatingplace.com

Rachland's owner, Gary Wold, says if approved, the new plant would cost about $13.5 million to build and take about a year to complete. The goal is to begin this June. Meatingplace reports that Wold is presenting the proposal to Butte's Tax Increment Financing Industrial District board for review.

Ranchland Packing, incorporated in 1973, now operates a small slaughter operation, processing 50 cattle, hogs, sheep and bison per week.
