Russia has announced that they will reduce pork and poultry imports by 2012 according to a report by Meat International. The announcement was made by Victor Zubkov, vice Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. Currently, Russia imports 29 percent of its pork which the official said was “too much.” Russia has already reduced their pork imports from the United States in recent months.

 “We are planning to reduce the dependence of our poultry and pork markets on overseas import,” stated Zubkov in an interview with the Russian media.
