Some progress is being made on the export front for U.S. pork. Russia has lifted a ban on pork imports from five U.S. states imposed in reaction to the Type A H1N1 influenza virus.
"We are lifting the ban on imports of (pork) produced from the U.S. states of Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada and Ohio," Russia's food safety regulator Rosselkhoznadzor posted on its Web site today.
The ban on meat imports from the U.S. states of Illinois, California, Delaware, Texas and New York is still in force. Russia has also imposed a ban on pork imports from South Carolina, Arizona and Massachusetts.
