We'd like to applaud Marlys Miller, Jane Messenger and James Arnold who are being recognized for their work on Porkmag.com. the Pork magazine staff has been honored with a Neal Award nine times and are proud to be a finalist again. Through the efforts of our editors, food producers have begun to embrace a full chain view that acknowledges the consumer is at the top of the food chain.

Marlys Miller, Editor
Marlys Miller was named editor of Pork magazine in 1994, becoming only the second person to hold that position since the publication's inception in 1981. She joined the staff in 1987 as an associate editor.

Marlys grew up on a swine, dairy and crop farm in Southern Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she received a B.S. degree in agricultural journalism, with a minor in animal science. Prior to joining Vance Publishing, Marlys spent 3.5 years as editor of producer publications for the National Pork Producers Council. She also worked for Professional Farmers of America in Cedar Falls, Iowa, as a hog market analyst and writer.

Jane Messenger, Associate Editor
Jane is an Iowa native who spent much time on her uncle's crop and livestock farm near Iowa Falls. She graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in agricultural journalism and a minor in fisheries and wildlife biology.

Following college, Jane worked for a chain of weekly newspapers in Iowa and was on the Iowa Farmer Today staff. She also has worked on agricultural accounts for a public relations agency and was on staff at the Iowa/Nebraska Equipment Dealers Association where she was responsible for writing and designing the monthly magazine.

James Arnold, Electronic Media Editor
James Arnold has been involved in electronic media for 16 years and has served as the electronic media editor for Vance Publishing's Food360 division for the past five years. Before moving to the Kansas City area in 2000, Arnold had online and offline writing and editing responsibilities at the Cedar Rapids Gazette newspaper. He holds a BA in journalism and mass communications from the University of Iowa.
