USDA will co-sponsor a conference in Milwaukee, Wisc., Sept. 12-15, to help beginning and small-scale farmers manage the risks associated with farming. The conference will include tours of local farms and agricultural businesses.

USDA is providing this educational opportunity for beginning and small-scale farmers to help support the health of local, regional, and national food systems, as well as helping to insure the character of rural America. Beginning farmers and those who farm small acreages cope with additional challenges compared with established, conventional farmers.

Risk Management Strategies for Beginning and Small Farmers and Ranchers Conference is designed to provide these farmers with resources and tools. The conference will be held at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center and will include tours of area farms and agricultural businesses. All food served at the conference will be provided by local growers and businesses.
