The overall index in October was pegged at 100.7, the highest level since September 2007 and most components of the index showed gains compared to the previous month and they are currently well above last year’s levels. We have noted this index in the past but as a  refresher for those readers that have not come across it, the index summarizes the results of a broad survey of restaurant operators from various segments of the industry. The survey covers both current conditions and expectations about the next six months.

The current conditions portion tries to assess same store sales compared to the previous year, foot traffic, labor and capital spending.
