Iowa pork producers are invited to learn more about managing the grow-finish production stage at one of the 2005 Iowa Pork Regional Conferences scheduled for late February. Iowa Pork Industry Center, Iowa Pork Producers Association, and Iowa State University Extension are cosponsoring this annual series of eight meetings at different sites around the state.

The series is set for Feb. 21-25. Fee for those preregistered at least two business days in advance is $20 per person, which includes a meal, breaks, and handouts. Registration at the door is $30 per person and the meal is not guaranteed. All fees are payable at the door.

IPIC program specialist Colin Johnson says this year’s conferences will offer information on technologies and strategies to maximize the grow-finish phase of swine production

Speakers and their topics include:

  • Mike Brumm, University of Nebraska, “Water - getting the plumbing right” and “Out-of-feed events - pigs are hungry more than we think”;
  • John Waddell, president of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians, “Antimicrobial use in pork production - will we follow the Danish experience?”;
  • Steve Meyer, Paragon Economics, “Optimal selling strategies - comparing packer matrices”; and
