The North Carolina Pork Council Board of Directors has appointed J. Randolph "Rann" Carpenter as chief executive officer.

Carpenter is the former vice president of governmental affairs for DFI Group, Inc. and was the chief public affairs officer for PCS Phosphate (formerly Texasgulf) in North Carolina. Carpenter replaces Walter Cherry, who has been with the Pork Council since 1987.

Waitus English, NCPC president, notes that Carpenter brings extensive experience in governmental affairs and public policy decision-making to the Council. "He has been involved in legislative, environmental, governmental and political affairs at the local, state and federal levels," English says.

"His vast experience in these areas will bring new ideas and strong
leadership to the Council and the industry."

"As an organization, we have a great opportunity to move ahead in a new direction," adds Carpenter. "We will work to strengthen our business condition, to perform our work in an environmentally sensitive manner and to reach out to others who have similar objectives."
