Track officials selected pork as the official meat at the new Iowa Speedway. This group, along with the Iowa Pork Producers Association, announced the new partnership at a news conference on Wednesday.

Two of the nation’s top racecar drivers also were present for the announcement. Frank Kimmel, 7-time ARCA champion, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Kerry Earnhardt shared their racing experiences at the event. The drivers attended the event as special guests of IPPA and both are sponsored by “Pork. The Other White Meat.”

“The pork industry is no stranger to racing,” says Scott Tapper, IPPA president-elect and a producer from Webster City. “The National Pork Board developed its pork racing program in early 2000 after seeing that the demographics of racing fans and pork consumers are almost identical. The pork racing program includes sponsorship of the championship ARCA RE/MAX Series race team, designation of pork as the Official Meat of the ARCA RE/MAX Series, a national tour of the racecar and simulator, and the Pork Pole Award recognizing the fastest qualifying car for each ARCA RE/MAX event.”

Iowa Speedway general manager Todd Melfi says the new partnership brings another well-known product into the Iowa Speedway corporate family. “We want the ‘best-of-the-best’ at Iowa Speedway and, in this case, ‘the best’ is right in front of us here in Iowa,” says Melfi. “Our choice of pork as our ‘official meat’ will be well-received by racing and entertainment fans and it really reflects our deep Iowa roots.”
