A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the person who dumped more than 30 dead hogs in the Raccoon River in northwest Iowa, officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say.

The hogs were found by canoeists on the river last week.

The reward is being offered by Pete Houska, a nearby pork producer, the Sac County Pork Producers Association and the Sac County Farm Bureau.

“It really did upset me that someone would do something like this,” Houska says. “It's uncalled for and will not be tolerated.”

The person responsible for dumping the hogs in the river could face charges of littering or improper disposal of dead animals, according to officials.
