New pork promotions designed to accelerate pork sales will hit high gear this weekend for Memorial Day’s Indy 500. Local Indianapolis supermarkets will feature free pork burger samples grilled by members of the Indiana Pork Producers Association. The free samples will be offered outside several high-traffic Marsh supermarkets near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“We want to show consumers that you don’t need hamburger for every meal, especially if you’re looking for great tailgating food,” says Ryan Mills, retail marketing manager, Midwest division, for the National Pork Board. On May 24, when consumers stop in to buy their holiday weekend meal ingredients and tailgating supplies, they can receive $1 off any fresh pork product.
“Pork is a very important part of Marsh supermarkets’ business,” says Mills, who notes that the chain includes 103 stores, with many located in the Indianapolis area. While the Indianapolis 500 promotion event focuses on one weekend, the message of pork’s convenience is promoted year-round.
