Murphy-Brown LLC, the livestock production subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, announced that Steve Pollmann has been named Vice President and General Manager for Western Operations of Murphy-Brown, subsequent to the retirement of former president Randy Stoecker, effective Dec. 1, 2007.  In this position, Pollmann will direct pork production systems for Murphy-Brown in nine Midwestern states. He will report directly to Jerry Godwin, president and chief operating officer of Murphy-Brown.

Pollmann joined Murphy-Brown in June 1997 as General Manager of Circle Four Farms in Milford, Utah. Since February 2002, he has held the position of director of operations for Murphy-Brown Western Operations, headquartered in Ames, Iowa. 

Prior to joining Murphy-Brown, Pollmann spent 13 years with Consolidated Nutrition where he was vice president of research and development. He was an assistant professor of Animal Science at KansasStateUniversity from 1980 to 1984. Pollmann earned a doctorate and masters of science in swine nutrition from the University of Nebraska, and a bachelor of science in animal science from UtahStateUniversity in Logan, Utah. He and his wife, Shauna, currently reside in Ankeny, Iowa.
