With her trademark “Hey, ya’ll!” greeting and her famous home-style cooking, Food Network star Paula Deen dished about everything from pork tenderloin to cooking tips during “An Evening with Paula Deen” in Florida, thanks to a unique co-sponsored event.
“This exciting promotion didn’t cost pork producers any funding to implement,” says Mike Walser, retail marketing manager, eastern division, for the National Pork Board. “It just took some time and some key partnerships.”
NPB, Smithfield and Hadco/Viking Appliances teamed up with the Winn-Dixie supermarket chain to sponsor the Aug. 18 event, which was held at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine.
Winn-Dixie Rewards Card Customers had the opportunity to register to win tickets for two to the event. One hundred customers won the ticket package, which included dining on roasted pork tenderloin with asparagus, pineapple casserole and Deen’s famous peach cobbler.
Deen is a Georgia native who has become a nationally renowned restaurateur, television chef and publisher. She hosts the popular “Paula’s Home Cooking” on The Food Network.
To promote the “Evening with Paula Deen” contest and drive pork sales, Winn Dixie offered specials this summer on Smithfield Bacon, Smithfield Smoked Sausage, pork shoulder blade steaks and other fresh pork products.
Deen answered questions from the audience and entertained everyone with her warm sense of humor and quick wit, Walser says. "Winn Dixie did a terrific job hosting this spectacular event, which offered an excellent way to showcase pork.”
