The Board of Directors of the National Pork Producers Council appointed Jill Appell as the new vice president of the organization. Appell succeeds Lois Britt who passed away June 4.

Appell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new position. Jill and her husband Paul own and run a sow operation in Altona, Ill. She has held a number of leadership positions including state executive director of rural development in Illinois, president of the Illinois Pork Producers Association and has served on the Illinois Governor’s Livestock Task Force and the Council for Food and Agricultural Research. In addition, Appell also served as a member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Foreign Trade and Exports for Animals and Animal Products.

“NPPC needed to fill the position with someone who understands pork production and is equipped with the vision, knowledge and expertise to lead our industry,” says NPPC President Don Buhl.
