National Pork Producers Council President Jon Caspers has commended the U.S. Senate for approving the nomination of Utah Gov. Michael Leavitt (R) as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“Gov. Leavitt has a well deserved reputation for reaching across party lines and across the agricultural community to lead collaborative efforts aimed at providing a common-sense, balanced approach on environmental issues,” says Caspers, a pork producer from Swaledale, Iowa.
He says NPPC is looking forward to exploring ways to enhance pork producers’ environmental management efforts with the new EPA administrator. “For many years now, the pork industry has worked closely with the EPA on innovative projects that assist America’s pork producers in meeting their environmental challenges with respect to our nation’s air, water and soil resources,” he notes. “We believe Gov. Leavitt’s integrity and comprehensive understanding of both agriculture and the environment will continue to assist in producing sensible, cost-effective
solutions to the environmental challenges facing U.S. producers."
