In a lengthy article published in the Feb. 21 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, Bill Niman, founder of the natural/organic food company Niman Ranch expressed some frank opinions about the new owners —  Natural Food Holdings LLC management. Apparently Niman disagrees with some of the decisions and approaches that Natural Foods officials are making regarding the company and products that continue to bear his name.

Niman became the darling of Bay Area chefs and aggressively promoted natural meat products nationwide, linking with quick serve restaurants and retail grocers alike. Still, profitability has not been kind to Niman Ranch and Natural Foods, then a major shareholder bought the company and took it over in recent months in an attempt to improve profitability.

Niman is no longer involved in the company and is said to be suffering from “founder’s syndrome,” according to one company investor. That investor wound up walking away after the merger with Natural Food Holdings with only 12 1/2 cents for every dollar he put into the company and says, "He [Niman] was resistant to change."
