Australian researchers have found a new type of virus in the Australian state of New South Wales. The new virus causes high mortality rates in piglets.
Infection with this virus causes inflammation of the heart muscle, which results in sudden death among piglets. Additionally, stillborn and mummified piglets have been observed.
Scientists have named the disease porcine myocarditis syndrome. According to the research team, the virus belongs to the group of Pesti viruses.
