October Pork Month a special time to celebrate the versatile and delicious "Pork. The Other White Meat" has begun. The National Pork Board is at work highlighting pork products and producers.
“October Pork Month serves as a reminder to Americans that pork is a great product, and producers work hard to make it healthy and available,” says Dave Culbertson, NPB president and pork producer from Geneseo, Ill. “During October and the entire year, the pork checkoff works for producers through research, promotion and education programs.”
Among NPB's efforts is www.porkboard.org which provides information about pork producers, pork products and pork checkoff programs. On NPB's Web site you'll find such things as “Friday Feature” which looks at a specific pork producer. You can use the “Pork Production” menu to find links to environmental informaton, Hot Topics in the industry, as well as a variety of programs such as the Pork Quality Assurance program and the Swine Welfare Assurance Program.
NPB officials point to some highlights of the past year, including the new youth PQA programs, research done on porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome and producers continuous use of the Pork Checkoff Service Center. Through information and marketing efforts with retailers and foodservice providers, NPB is sharing information about consumers and products. Specific focus is on pork barbecue, NPB's new Counting Carbs campaign, Hispanic marketing and the Pork Racing program.
All of this and more is available at www.porkboard.org not just during October Pork Month, but all year round.
