This past weekend, more retail brands were found to be involved with beef supplies originating from the Hallmark/Westland plant in Chino, Calif. This of course means that they are now touched by the record-setting beef recall.

The brands involve lasagna from H.J. Heinz Co.'s Boston Market line; selected items from ConAgra's Slim Jim; Hunt's Banquet and Manwich brands, as well as some foodservice and private-label goods. Previously, General Mills and Nestle began recalling certain items because an ingredient source check revealed that some beef had originated at the Hallmark/Westland plant.

Meanwhile, Meatingplace.com reports that the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations plans to subpoena Hallmark/Westland Chief Executive Officer, Steve Mendell. They want him to appear before the committee to testify on March 12. Mendell failed to appear at a Feb. 26, hearing at which his presence was requested, but not required.
