National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week Ending December 7, 2012
Compared to last week: Slaughter cattle lightly tested and few
sales mostly $1.00 lower. Dressed sales in light test $2.00-$4.00 lower.
Packer demand moderate at best.
Boxed beef prices Friday afternoon averaged 182.67 down 1.94 from
last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is at 20.57. Slaughter cattle
on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday afternoon
totaled about 16,000. Last week's total head count was 53,318.
Midwest Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs few 124.00
Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers: few 196.00-198.00
South Plains Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-65 percent Choice, 1100-1400 lbs few 124.00
Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):
Slaughter cows and bulls steady to 3.00 lower. Packer demand moderate.
USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 161.49
up .13 from last Friday.
