Pennsylvania state police have charged a man in connection with the death of 832 pigs at a farm he abandoned. A criminal complaint was filed Thursday against 47-year-old Daniel Lee Clark Sr. The man has been charged with animal cruelty.

The pigs were discovered last month by a real estate agent inspecting the property in Warfordsburg. Estimates have varied on the number of animals; police now say 832 died.

Lt. Greg Bacher tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that the mummified carcasses make it hard to know the cause of death. Weather, thirst or disease could have been factors.

Authorities say Clark abandoned the Fulton County farm in Feb. 2009. Clark now lives in Clear Spring, Md., but a phone listing could not be found.
