Three major papers in California have published editorials that urge voters to vote “No” on a controversial proposition that will be before voters on the Nov. 4, ballot and is sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States. The Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle and Orange County Register all released opinions that agreed with some of the principles set forth in the proposition language; however, they also said that the proposed statute was not the answer.
The Orange County Register editorial stated, “It's hard not to sympathize with the intent here, given most people's concern about animal cruelty, but Proposition 2 would have a number of unforeseen consequences. And there is a better approach to promoting better conditions for farm animals.”
