The National Pork Board and the National Pork Producers Council have created an extensive program for U.S. pork producers reflecting the standards and protocols for responsible pork production in the United States.
The "We Care" program is designed for producers and their hands-on production staffs. It demonstrates that producers are accountable to established ethical principles and animal well-being practices. The program also addresses pork producer's responsibility to their customers and consumers, the environment, food safety, their employees and the communities in which they live.
The pork industry already offers numerous programs, including Pork Quality Assurance Plus® (PQA Plus®) and Transport Quality Assurance® (TQASM), to support animal well-being and maintain a safe, high-quality supply of pork. The "We Care" initiative ties everything together to help illustrate and ensure that the U.S. pork industry is a self-regu lated system that values and earns the trust of others.
