John Lawrence, Iowa State University Extension livestock economist and economics professor, has been appointed to USDA’s Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics.

The committee advises the National Agricultural Statistics Service on agricultural censuses and surveys and consists of 25 members who represent varied agricultural disciplines and interests. The appointment was made by USDA Secretary Ed Schafer.

Lawrence joined the Iowa State faculty in 1991. He has served as director of the Iowa Beef Center since 1998.

Lawrence was raised on a southwest Iowa farm and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Iowa State in animal science and economics. Lawrence earned a doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri in 1989.
