Three U.S. pork plants will be ineligible to ship pork to Russia in the new year, according to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. Effective Dec. 31, 2010, Russia has delisted Smithfield Packing, Inc. Smithfield, Va,, Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., Waterloo, Iowa and Farmland Foods, Monmouth, IIl.

Reasons for the plant delistings were not cited on the FSIS website. In the past, U.S.-Russia pork trade has been hampered by Russia’s unique technical regulations for pork – in particular, its zero tolerance for certain antibiotic residues and other microbiological parameters. These requirements were at the heart of Russia’s U.S. plant delistings over the past two years.
