The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in Amarillo now offers a enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test for the detection of antibodies to porcine circovirus (PCV) type 2. The PCV is a common virus found in pigs world-wide. The PCV type 2 emerged in North America in the late 1990s and has impacted countries with a developed swine industry around the world.

Clients should provide 1 cc of serum for the test. The test will be run Monday and Thursday; results are the same day if received in the virology section by noon. The test is offered for $8 for in-state and $9.60 for out-of-state clients. Discounted pricing for submissions with six or more specimens is $6 in-state and $7.20 out-of-state.

If you have any questions regarding this test or interpretation of results, please contact the Amarillo laboratory at 806.353.7478 or toll free at 888.646.5624. We look forward to providing quality, affordable and timely diagnostic results to all clients.
