Additional cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been reported in China’s Guizhou Province, Chinese veterinary officials have reported. Guizhou is situated on the eastern part of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in southwest China.

Over 400 pigs were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 4 cases were positive, according to the report. Two deaths were recorded, and the remaining animals were destroyed.

The World Organization for Animal Health received the report April 7. The affected population also includes cattle, sheep and goats.

A total of 252 cattle were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 87 cases were identified. Of the cattle reported, 12 deaths were recorded and the remaining 240 were destroyed. The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
