The Iowa Pork Producers Association, Fareway Stores and Chairman’s Reserve, are looking for the best Iowa State University and University of Iowa pork football tailgaters to compete for prizes in the 2011 Pork Tailgate Challenges to be held next month.

The Cyclone Pork Tailgate Challenge will be held outside Jack Trice Stadium in Ames Saturday, Oct. 1, prior to the ISU-Texas football game at a time to be announced.

The Hawkeye Pork Tailgate Challenge will be Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Krause Family Plaza at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City before the Iowa-Northwestern football game. Judging will begin at 1 p.m.

“The Iowa Pork Producers are excited to be teaming with Fareway and Chairman’s Reserve to sponsor the PORK Tailgate Challenge at both Iowa State and Iowa,” said IPPA President Leon Sheets, a pork producer from Ionia. “I’m looking forward to seeing and tasting all of the barbecued pork entries. I know these tailgaters take as much pride in cooking the pork as I do in producing it for them. So get your grill on with ‘Pork. Be inspired and let’s have some fun.”

Tailgaters can compete in any of three different pork categories:

Loins … whole or ½ loins, roasts, chops, etc.
Ribs … bone-in pork ribs of any kind
Other … Ground pork burgers, pork sausage, brats,, etc.

Participants can enter up to two pork items. Anyone wanting additional recipe ideas can find more than 1,800 recipes at .

Interested tailgaters can register here. Iowa State fans have until Sept. 23 to register. The registration deadline for Iowa fans is Oct. 7. Hurry, registration is limited.
