Pork producers from Nebraska and Iowa are teaming up to celebrate the recent launch of the new national Pork Be inspiredcampaign by holding a free lunch Monday, April 11, in downtown Omaha.
The public is invited to the Eugene Leahy Mall at 11th & Farnam Street to enjoy a pork sandwich, chips and bottled water from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Come join the fun and enjoy a delicious ground pork and bacon burger,” says Iowa Pork Producers Association President Leon Sheets, a producer from Ionia. “Not only will you enjoy a juicy, tender, flavorful pork meal, but you also will be helping those in need.”
The Pork Be inspired Barbecue is part of a nationwide partnership of America’s pork producers with Feeding America. Pork producers across the country are hosting similar events. On April 14 in New York City, pork producers plan to open a one-day-only Pork Inspiration Café. Top Chef All-Star winner Richard Blais will be serving up inspired pork dishes free of charge. For every meal served at the Pork Inspiration Café, one meal will be donated to a local food bank. The effort will continue through the National Pork Board’s online food drive, with the goal of donating 125,000 servings of fresh pork to Feeding America. Consumers can help pork producers meet this goal by simply clicking “Like” on Facebook.com/PorkBeInspired or visiting www.PorkBeInspired.com through May 31.
