Pharmacosmos Inc. has announced that its Uniferon brand of injectable iron for baby pigs will be available for the U.S. market April 1 following U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, according to a cmmpany news release.

Pharmacosmos will offer both Uniferon 200 (200mg iron/ml) and Uniferon 100 (100mg iron/ml) to swine producers and livestock veterinarians across the United States. Pharmacosmos provides U.S. customers with a reliable supply of high quality, veterinary iron. In fact, Uniferon 200 is the only 200mg/ml veterinary iron supplement that is approved by both the FDA and health authorities in Europe and Asia.

Uniferon 200 is a result of Pharmacosmos’ own research and is a ready-to-use injectable ironsupplement for baby pigs that prevents iron deficiency anemia, boosts growth and improves health.

Pharmacosmos operates a new state-of-the-art manufacturing and research facility in Denmark as a result of an investment of more than $100 million in 2003.

In recent years there has been an inconsistent supply of veterinary injectable iron dextran products in the U.S. due to the problems associated with previous manufacturers to consistently meet FDA requirements.

As distribution partner in the U.S., Pharmacosmos has appointed Ivesco, a major distribution company which has serviced the swine industry for more than 50 years.
