A fire destroyed an Illinois hog confinement barn Wednesday morning. WGIL News reports that when firefighters arrived on the scene, it was apparent that the fire had been burning for an extended period of time.

An estimated 500 hogs were killed in the fire - most from smoke inhalation. The barn caught fire again Thursday morning, and fire officials plan to demolish the building completely.

The fire is still under investigation.
