JBS Swift & Co. is looking to build a multimillion-dollar distribution center at the company's existing pork complex in Marshalltown, Iowa, according to the area's Times-Republican  newspaper.

The newspaper reports Troy Mulger, the JBS pork plant general manager, as saying the refrigerated warehouse's footprint could total 150,000 square feet and would add new jobs. He would not commit to the possible number of jobs, adding that the facility also would rely heavily on automated machinery.

A public hearing on JBS's zoning request is scheduled for Oct. 15.

The Times-Republican, reports that JBS would have to acquire additional property to the south of its Marshalltown plant. The property in question is a park, and the company reportedly has offered to relocate and replace its recreational facilities.
