More than 100 producer-delegates from around Iowa are expected to participate in this year’s Iowa Pork Producers Association meeting Jan. 27 which will be held at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel.

Among the seven resolutions submitted by county pork producer organizations and the IPPA Board of Directors to be debated and voted on are proposals involving Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling, animal welfare, the pork checkoff, ethanol policy and the Renewable Fuels Standard, and a federal bailout for the pork industry.

Dave Moody, outgoing IPPA president and a pork producer from Nevada, will deliver his state of the association address to the delegates.

The agenda also includes various committee reports and updates from the National Pork Board and the National Pork Producers Council. The annual meeting will conclude with the passing of the gavel from Moody to 2009 IPPA President John Vossberg, a producer from Janesville.

The 2009 Iowa pork queen and premier pork youth ambassador will be announced by the Iowa Pork Producers Association at the 37th annual Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines Jan. 28. Nine young women will represent their respective counties in the pork queen contest. All are current county pork queens or princesses. The runner up will assist the queen as the Iowa pork princess.

The new queen, princess and premier pork youth ambassador will represent the Iowa pork industry throughout the year at various promotional and educational events around the state, as well as at out-of-state events.

The queen and youth ambassador each receive a $2,000 college scholarship and the princess is awarded a $1,000 scholarship from IPPA. The Queen, Princess and Premier Pork Youth Ambassador will be introduced during the Iowa Pork Congress Banquet at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel beginning at 6 p.m.
