Triumph Foods won’t build a processing plant in East Moline, Ill., at least not yet. The Silvis City Council voted no to expanding the enterprise zone for the proposed Triumph Foods pork-processing plant site in neighboring East Moline.

The enterprise zone would have provided the company with a number of tax incentives, including waived fees for permits, tax exemptions on construction materials and tax rebates for the property.

Silvis was the last municipality to have a say in the zone’s expansion. Even though the project is in East Moline, all of the partners in the enterprise zone — the cities of East Moline, Moline, Milan, Silvis and Rock Island County — had to grant approval for its expansion.

Triumph representatives plan to re-evaluate their options.
